Rain Down
Words and Music by Amity Dry
This song nearly didn't make it on the album, because for a while it just wasn't working at all. I knew the chorus was really strong but the verses and bridge just weren't happening, so we agreed I would try to rewrite it and if it still didn't work we'd leave it. Luckily, the new verses and bridge came to me pretty quickly and they were much better than the original, so the song lived to see another day. Once again, I have to thank the endless phone calls talking about that break up for my inspiration! When I originally wrote it I was thinking of those scenes in movies where the girl finally walks out on the bad relationship, and how it always seems to be raining! While I'm sure it helps with the dramatics of the scene I'm sure in real life a person would think “Great, the worst moment of my life, and now it's raining!!” But then I thought of rain as a healing thing, washing away all that's been and dawning a new day. I love the idea of the rain washing your troubles out to sea and giving you strength.
6 o'clock and he's still sleeping
I pack my bags don't make a sound
Turn the lock, my heart is beating
I've come to far to turn back now
I turn the door on a life left behind
Rain drops fall as I start to cry
If it's gonna rain, rain down today
Wash all my tears
Take them away
Let if flow down on me
Take my troubles far out to see
Rain down on me
Too many times I've made up excuses
Too many nights I've wondered why
What began with so much promise
Turned so fast into a lie
And every step is taking all that I have
But if I stay I'll lose all that I am
Chorus
Wash away my indecision
Make me strong
Don't let me fold
Let me cry til I'm empty
Then let the sun warm my soul
Chorus
