Don't Want To Hurt
Words and Music by Amity Dry
This song is the oldest on the album, as I wrote it a few years ago and then forgot about it for a while. It has always been one of my favourites to play and sing when I am feeling a bit down, but I never thought it would end up on an album. Again, when I played it to people they said it was a must, and that I was crazy not to think so! I am a big fan of sad songs, especially those that you can play when you want to have a big cry, and this is definitely one of those songs. I love the line 'The song sounds the same as before, and the words make me cry.' What I was trying to convey was that feeling of knowing how much it's going to hurt when the relationship is over, and not wanting to go through it again. When I recorded this we turned out all the lights, everyone left the room and I sang it in one take. I didn't want it to be perfect, just to be raw and real.
It's a little strange how we got this way
I can still remember like it's yesterday
Have I lost my mind?
Trouble seems to be a constant friend of me
Everywhere I go it follows
I can't leave it behind
But now, just when I thought I'd found my way
I'm back here again
And I don't want to hurt anymore
The song sounds the same as before
And the words make me cry
Please don't you walk out the door
I can't be broken again
And I don't want to hurt anymore
I can still recall the first time I saw
The way you looked at me
It made me feel so beautiful
Can I turn back the time?
I gave too much away
I know they say play it cool
I was a fool
But I wouldn't change
I wouldn't even try
But now, just when I thought we had got it together
Everything's changed
